A series of 6 audio/visual installations, designed as a holistic experience featuring stereo, multichannel acousmatic, and reactive audio. A strategy of related tempos, time signatures, dynamics, and keys were used to mitigate dissonance in interstitial areas.
The aforementioned strategy was also the basis of the multichannel sculptural exhibit in which three related sculptures with accompanying audio and synced visuals were placed in close proximity of each other. Each soundtrack had its own distinctive sonic signature- e.g. Voice, Resonant Sweeps, Percussion- and these three distinct soundtracks all worked together as a holistic composition as well as solo discrete pieces. As the visitors moved through the space, the balance of the soundtrack and its call and response motifs would shift depending on the listeners position.
I worked extensively with the creative director, Ricardo Rivera, in crafting the final form of the mushroom sculpture. We used a hybrid workflow of digital and physical modeling before passing the design to the Atelier at Grounds for Sculpture for fabrication. The final form was intentionally phallic- a comment on the regenerative nature of the mushroom- a fruiting body associated with decay.
